Free Soakers...

Well,

I pulled the old 1700 and 1000 out of the storage unit to see if I could diagnose the issue then fix them.  A valiant effort it was, but it was to be in vain.  Tried as hard as I did, but to no avail.  Both soakers out of commission.  Oddly enough, they both have the same problem.  On the front nozzle valve assembly, there is a metal rod which becomes the 'puller' actuator for the nozzle to open.  Super Soakers had a horrible design of actuating this rod using a sweeping angular lever, thereby not only putting stress on the whole assembly, but pushing the rod, usually up, so that the seal is compromised.  And compromised it is.  All around this rod out the back of the nozzle assembly is where there is a strong leak out of both soakers.  The CPS-1700 assembly may be salvageable, the CPS-1000 is not.  Actually, I think I made it worse *embarrassed*

SO!  Because I needed these to either function or be gone, my loss is your gain.  These soakers will be free to whoever wants them.  Now, keep in mind, you'll have to pay shipping if I ship them, but you'll have a fun project on your hands, or some spare parts for your 1500/1700 and 1000.

Let me know, otherwise sadly they might just be going in the trash...:(

Moved some things around

Its been a while since I did anything with HTML...so there is a bit of a learning curve coming back.

Moved some things around on the page.  Hopefully it all looks more balanced and not off-centered.  If things look funky on your end, post a comment about it.  I'll try it on some other computers as well just to test it out.

To any soaker webmasters out there - be encouraged!  Make little changes as you go.  Soon, things will start shaping up and looking a lot more polished.  It usually happens over time.  In my case, just 10 years.

The Soaker Community

Where do YOU want to see the soaker community?  Do you wanted to stay at SSCentral.org and reap the benefits of a long establishment or move to a possibly better place but start from the ground up?

What say you?

To Fix or Not

So I have my old CPS-1000 and CPS-1700 down in the storage room right now - both are out of commission and have been for a while.  Too much experimenting gone awry.

I've been getting rid of stuff for the past week or two in anticipation of a move.  Looks like these two might be on the chopping block.

Should I attempt to fix and sell?  Just let em go as is?  Its been a long time since I've had them open...but hey, I'm up for a nostalgic moment.

Anyone know how to take one apart?

just kidding:)

Where to next?

One of the developing discussions over as SSC (at least since last year) is a consolidation of the entire community.  Seems like a pretty good idea. But do it enough times (just like in real life) and you start to feel pretty tired.  I do agree with the intent, though...the community needs somewhere to call 'home', meaning, it is an ever present and constant need. It is such a small community that if it is splintered between different forums, websites, etc...it would make it hard to have a real community.  My observation is that the community 'hub' currently is Super Soaker Central or iSoaker.com.  Ben has done a great job (I'm sure with a lot of other folks helping) to really make something great out of SSC but there is talk about putting it all under one roof.  Collaboration is good.

For me, I'd be cool with Aquatica 2.0...there could be something to getting over then past and starting new.  The community is a little more mature, and it can learn from its mistakes.  Unfortunately, most people have only a negative view because the only context by which they hear of it is how it ended.  Maybe its time to give a little bit of meaning back to that once great name.  For me, Aquatica was awesome and the good memories outweigh the bad.  It is what people are familiar with (for better or for worse...ha) and I think it still sounds pretty cool.

Granted, its just a name...and a controversial one at that.  Such a move would be largely symbolic, but symbolism can carry a great deal of meaning.  My hope would be that it would carry a positive meaning.

Taken From a Year Ago...

Back about a year ago (yep, that last time I said I'd get back in the community), little did anyone know, but I actually created a website template in preparation for a new website.  What you see here on this blog is the refined version of it.  However, for nostalgia's sake, here was my page from a year ago, including what was written a year ago:

http://gutsnglory.50webs.com/

I'd still like to do something with it, I just don't have the time do create 50 pages and do everything over.  However, perhaps if I focused on one area or topic, it could be much more manageable.  I've always enjoyed website creation and management.  Over the course of time that I have been absent from the community, there have no doubt been questions regarding the website (more specifically, "When is he going to get the LINKS WORKING???") and perhaps now would be a good time to answer those questions and to find out what information people want GnG to showcase.  So...?

Soakers for sale...

Special news for all the water warriors out there!  Some classic original GnG hardware is going to be up for grabs.  Most of these soakers are the same ones that were posted on the 1st edition of Guts N Glory back in 2001.  Soakers include Storm 750 and 500, CPS-2500, CPS-1700, CPS-10,000 (modded), 2x Monster-Xs, XP-70, SS-40, and maybe, just maybe, you might be able to pry my XP-150 from my hands.  If interested, leave your contact.  Thanks!
