Where to next?

One of the developing discussions over as SSC (at least since last year) is a consolidation of the entire community.  Seems like a pretty good idea. But do it enough times (just like in real life) and you start to feel pretty tired.  I do agree with the intent, though...the community needs somewhere to call 'home', meaning, it is an ever present and constant need. It is such a small community that if it is splintered between different forums, websites, etc...it would make it hard to have a real community.  My observation is that the community 'hub' currently is Super Soaker Central or iSoaker.com.  Ben has done a great job (I'm sure with a lot of other folks helping) to really make something great out of SSC but there is talk about putting it all under one roof.  Collaboration is good.

For me, I'd be cool with Aquatica 2.0...there could be something to getting over then past and starting new.  The community is a little more mature, and it can learn from its mistakes.  Unfortunately, most people have only a negative view because the only context by which they hear of it is how it ended.  Maybe its time to give a little bit of meaning back to that once great name.  For me, Aquatica was awesome and the good memories outweigh the bad.  It is what people are familiar with (for better or for worse...ha) and I think it still sounds pretty cool.

Granted, its just a name...and a controversial one at that.  Such a move would be largely symbolic, but symbolism can carry a great deal of meaning.  My hope would be that it would carry a positive meaning.

  1. Most current members are unfamiliar with the Aquatica forums (including me) and actually, sometime around 2007, Waterwarfare.com and its boards were started. This has been the main place of community merging for some time but it has never happened and since then a lot of community veterans have gone inactive or have been less active. Still, moving to WWc seems more plausiable than starting up a more than decade old board.

  2. Well the board itself wouldn't be 10 years old, since its just a name. But for the old timers it would provide a little nostalgia:)
